2008: My favorites.

well with 2008 coming to a close, I'm going to give a brief rundown of my absolute favorite things of this year. the categories are pretty miscellaneous, as some are probably real predictable, and others just being off the deep end.

favorite movie: the dark knight

did you even need to guess? this is probably now my favorite movie of ALL-TIME... much less 2008. chris nolan is a genius, christian bale is THE BATMAN, and god rest heath ledger's soul. he was a fantastic entertainer and he definitely went out with a career role.

favorite cd: 808's and Heartbreak

this is going to sound redundant and cliche' but seriously, this is the album i've been searching for my entire adolescent life. it reminds me of journey... mixed with kanye west... mixed with that bullshit techno i listened to in high school... mixed with usher/timberlake/early michael jackson. top 5 favorite cd's ever. best of 2008.

favorite gadget: apple macbook

for someone who's broken so many damned computers (got viruses?) this sucker has been a lifesaver. i'm going on 10-11 months with my macbook and haven't had a single problem. i don't care whether you think it's gimmick or not... mac > pc.

favorite woman: britney spears

call me crazy... but i've still got a soft spot for ol' britney spears and seeing mtv rig the vma's this year to help launch her comeback definitely didn't make me mad. maybe it's because she's from louisiana, or maybe it's because she's a country girl who is definitely a little unstable from louisiana, but she's still got me. plus her new song is really catchy.

favorite material item: air jordan III and air jordan XI (tie)

you knew it was going to be shoes. jordans for that matter. i can't lie. as a kid, i passed on a couple of opportunities to buy III's. just didn't appeal to me. but I guess the invention of youtube and reliving all those moments of mike killing them boys in the III's did it for me. and I just needed the black ones. I currently have 2 pairs... quite a hefty gift to myself. and as far as the XI's... let's just say when I missed the originals in 1996 as a 10 year old, after I wiped my tears from my eyes, I told myself I was NEVER going to let those shoes release without me owning a pair.

man who most gained my respect in 365 days time: kobe bryant


let me be the first to say... i still dislike kobe bryant. very much. but i've got to respect the man. despite what some "experts" (college students alike) may think, he doesn't have THAT much help on his team. he's got a 7-1 power forward, a 7-1 285 lb 22 year old as his center, a slashing 6-10 small forward who can shoot the 3 and a bunch of guys who can come off the bench and give you 5-8 points a game... hey wait a minute... why do I feel bad for him again? no really. kobe does his thing. the best scorer in the nba right now. he just can't get passed the celtics. and this year... probably not the hornets either. nice jersey, kobe.
